Cable Installation for Bar End Shifters

Hi. I'g going to exist installing some bar end shifters. I've found enough of videos for how to install the pods, only so far goose egg on how to actually run the cables. Wondering if anyone can bespeak me in the right management for some visual aids. Cheers!

Edit: I'm clear on where the housing runs out. Just trying to understand how the cable itself affixes to the levers.

You run them under the handlebar and then out.

There are a few different ways to do it. Y'all can run the whole cable housing under the tape, just that tin result in some pretty sharp bends, especially on a smaller frame. To eliminate those sharp bends, a lot of people elect to take the cable exit from the record as shown in the attached images.

Thanks for the replies. I'm clear on where the housing runs out. But trying to understand how the cable itself affixes to the levers.

.
...with modern die fatigued polish stainless cables and plastic lined housing (like Jagwire) they work out much meliorate if you run the cable housings all the way up and exit the tape well-nigh the stem, where you would leave for brifters and aero brake housing runs.

It looks cleaner and there'southward less exposed cable housing flopping around to get snagged on stuff.

It works fine that mode, so long as y'all use the skilful stuff for cables and housing.

cable feeds through a pigsty in the lever... cablevision so passes thru the shifter torso... cable housing fits into the shifter body.... tension holds cablevision housing in the body.

i've run bar terminate shifters on my road bike for 45+ years... i've routed the cables two ways... the most pop fashion is to tape the cablevision housing to the lowere role of the bar drops simply... i have likewise taped the cablevision housing to the bars all the way up to the top end of the bar tape... both worked fine... the "but lower drops" method allows the cables to bounce around quite a flake when riding... the upper exit point of the second method puts a stop to the bouncing.... and if sized correctly, there was no binding of the cables... i exited the taping about4 inches from the center of the bars... My Trek is taped like that correct now...

Basically, it'due south merely cable tension, the same as any other cable housing stops you lot may have.

ane. Install the shift levers and their bodies on the handlebar ends (y'all have to remove the levers to get to the trunk mounting bolts and so reinstall them).
2. Push both shift levers all the mode down equally far as they will go.
three. Thread the inner cable through the hole in the shift lever and through the pigsty in the body until it pokes out the forepart and nether the handlebar driblet.
4. Pull the cablevision completely through until the head beds in the hole in the lever.
5. Thread information technology through the housing and bed the housing end in the recess in the shifter body where the inner wire emerges.

I've cabled barends both emerging from the handlebar tape at the front of the drops every bit Skydog75's photos show and too run the housing all the manner under the tape emerging next to the stem. Given good quality housing and inner wires, I prefer the later. It makes for a neater, less snag-prone cablevision run and shifting is very proficient.

thanks for finishing upwardly on this... i had a customer to make happy...

i've ran into a few shift cables lately that take casting flash nevertheless on them... if the cable won't seat into the shift lever, have the cablevision dorsum out a ways, and remove the flash with a small, smooth file, making sure y'all don't hitting the cablevision strands with the file... it should pull into the lever more easily then.
